Choosing the right violin can be tricky. Violins come in a very wide range of prices and in many sizes. Nine sizes, to be precise. Adults use standard, full-sized (4/4) violins. For children, there are also 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16 and 1/32 violins. The choice will depend on the child's size.

Then comes the choice of brands. While you probably won't pick up a million-euro Stradivarius, Stentor, Windsor, Mendini, Primavera, Yamaha and Hidersine are among the known brands. There are also many affordable vintage violins available from independent luthiers, some over 100 years old.

There are also electric violins and traditional violins with a pickup installed.

Whether you're looking for a student violin or not, do your research before choosing your instrument. Maybe our forum can help?
